CIV100, in my opinion, was the most challenging class in first year engineering. The first weeks of the class focused on the physical foundations of introductory mechanics in Civil Engineering—2D/3D particle and rigid-body equilibrium, point vs concentrated loads and moments. The equations were extremely simple, everything adds up to 0, but the problem-solving can get quite difficult. After the mid-term, the class became more focused on the application of Statics in simple engineering problems/contexts—trusses, frames and machines and beam design. Some expansion on the physical foundations underlying the topics as well with the introduction of centre of gravities, mass centres, mass moments of area, shear and stress forces. *Note*: I am in ECE and thus most of the topics learned in the class, I never had to use again, hence my rating for usefulness.

Recommended textbook has questions that are much simpler than those on the mid-term and final. Focus on past exam questions as well as the assignment questions for exam preperation. There are two one-question quizzes, one before the mid-term and one after the mid-term. Both quizzes used questions from past mid-terms.
